2008 = 1984?

Remember Winston in Orwell’s “1984”? It was his job, as an employee of the Ministry of Truth, to rewrite history, so that history always supported Big Brother’s ever changing position on any issue.

Well, on today’s kos rec list, you can find “Why Mandated Insurance Sucks - a Primer”
http://www.dailykos.com/story/2008/11/12/11410/086/271/659780

What do you want to bet that when Obama endorses mandates (as rumored today by Krugman) the kos rec list will feature, “Mandates are the awesome-est”?

The US history books will talk about this recession as being a result of "8 years of republican policies, led by Bush." And zero mention will be made of the influence on this financial mess resulting from Chris Dodd and Barney Franks Fannie/Freddie debacle. And the attempts by people like Bush and McCain to reverse the disaster path....back in 2005.

Enron was a national scandal and its executives were prosecuted. Congress wants to cap bonuses on Wall Street Execs. Yet the TENS of millions Howard Raines and the others up to their eyebrows in Fannie/Freddie, paid to themselves gets no mention. No attention. And guys like that - instead of public shame or even prosecution - they'll get cabinet posts in the Obama administration.

I didn't really become a political junkie until this election so maybe there was media stuff in 2005 about how Bush's and McCain's attempt to reform the mortgage industry failed. Just in case there wasn't I feel the need to ask this question. If reform was so gosh darn important where was the media coverage? Why wasn't someone jumping up and down about this? I'm not talking about a reporter,politicians chase cameras all the time. Just goes to show that sometimes sitting back and saying, "well, we tried" just isn't enough.
Also this was something that McCain never really talked about. He never really went after congress or Obama, on issues that could really resonate.

AIT - the reason there was no media coverage when Bush and McCain raised the issue is this.

NO ONE WANTS PREVENTION!

It is a crappy human trait that governments thrive on.

We ALL want a cure - but we are not interested in preventing disease or sickness.

The bailout is a very large example of the culture we have created for ourselves over the last 50 years.

Do what you want, when you want, and there will be a pill, a medical procedure, bankruptcy and even a machine that goes "ping" to wipe away your bad choices and lifestyle.

And if it is extra bad and mindblowingly massive - the Guvment will fix it.

The media loves blood - they are not interested in the bullet proof vest. Our so called free press is a joke.

Millions of Americans don't care about politics, but politics affects every single one of us.

Throwing more government onto bad government aint smart.
