Obamacrats and gay marriage

According to California exit polls, whites supported gay marriage 53-47. However, blacks opposed gay marriage by 70-30, Latinos opposed gay marriage by 51-49 and Asians opposed gay marriage by 53-47. Blacks were 10 percent of the California electorate, Latinos 19 percent, whites 63 percent and Asians 6 percent.

In other words, Obama did what no other politician could have. Obama killed gay marriage in California by driving up minority turnout.

And, per the Miami Herald: "Obama's candidacy likely played a role in the gay-marriage ban passing in Florida. Black voters turned out in droves and, according to exit polls, supported the amendment by the greaest margin - 71 percent to 29 percent."

Will this be the first crack in the Obama coalition?

(For the record, any true libertarian would oppose any gay marriage ban, and any true conservative who believes in federalism would oppose any federal gay marriage ban.)

I am opposed to a Federal statute addressing gay marriage. But I am also opposed to Judges appointed for life, "finding" some constitutional right to gays marrying.

How many b.s. "penumbras" need to be located or invented, and boot strapping contortions need to be performed, in order to reach the desired result of the guy writing the majority opinion?

Just like Roe v. Wade was a crap decision, which should be reversed. Even though I have no strong opinion, one way or another on abortion. (this is hard for my non-lawyer family members to reconcile - as it seems inconsistent to them).

Not to trivialize the hopes and dreams of a few "committed" couples who exist here and there, and I realize I am now subjecting myself to being totally flamed, but to me, the whole gay marriage thing is sort of like when the politicians were discussing passing a Flag Burning Amendment. Or holding hearings on whether baseball players take steroids. I can think of about 30 other pressing issues our government should address. Rome is burning, Visogoths are at the gates, and the Roman Senate is debating on whether to use Tigers or Lions in the gladiator shows.

Between 1.5-3.5% of the population is gay. That is statistical fact. Out of that number there may be at most a quarter or a third of them who want to get married, as opposed to continue living together, or continue uncommitted one-night stands, or enter into a civil union.

Just seems like a whole-lotta time and energy is being spent on the concerns/desires/demands of 0.5-1.0% of the national population.

The reality of the situation is that, if left to the states, abortion and gay marriage would both eventually be legal in states where the overwhelming majority live - - NY, CAL, ILL, PA, NJ, MASS, etc - - the coasts and the Great Lakes.
But, if that happened, all the people on both sides of these arguments who make their livings fighting and fundraising on these issues would have to get honest work, right?

Nah - if the situation as you described it ever really came to pass, it would just create more business opportunities for those leeches upon society like you and me. LOL. Think of the complicated messes!
