Palin overkill

In the 90's, there was no rumor, no smear, no gossip, too ridiculous or outrageous to spread about the Clintons. Bill was a drug dealing murderer, a sick psycho killer rapist of his third cousin was morphed into an innocent victim of Clinton injustice, and Hillary murdered Vince Foster in their love nest before hopping into bed with Janet Reno.

By the time the Monica mess came to light, it was Chicken Little / Henny Penny / the sky is falling again. No one believed it at first, and then no one cared.

That's what's happening to Palin now. They don't mean to, but they're just innoculating her.

However, it's telling that she's the Republican they're going after. It makes you wonder what they see in her, and what they fear.

It's obvious what THEY see in her; and obvious what THEY fear in her. As plain as the nose on your face, Barry. And the "they" happens to include the inside the beltway, northestern elite, establishment, country club, republicans:

That she MIGHT become Ronald Reagan in a skirt. A true CONSERVATIVE who the scary racist redneck southern preacher label can't be pinned too (Huckabee), or out of touch multi-millionaire white man label (Romney). Or 'heartless and mean' label (Bob Dole). Who identifies with and appeals to, regular citizens, and who then, LIKE REAGAN, can not only galvanize the "base" but also reach across and GRAB conservative blue collar democrats and together make that into a 50%+ winning combo. Therefore, she must be DEFINED and firmly and irrevocably ESTABLISHED and IMPRINTED in the minds of the populace, the way another young, up and coming, with a promising future, junior senator was: Dan Quayle. Dan Quayle with a skirt, and not Ronald Reagan in a skirt.

It is that simple. And that obvious.

Quayle will forever be remembered as America's national idiot. Funny thing though (as a guy who grew up in Indiana and once had dinner with Marilyn Qualye), nobody who knew him as a congressman and then a US Senator in his home state ever viewed him that way. Just as the people in Alaska who give Palin an 80%+ approval rating must be bemused at the fictional caricature the national leftist media has created for their governor.

They tried with Reagan. Oh how they tried. Gary Trudeau gave us a SIX week (yes SIX week) NON-stop daily dose of his "trip through Reagan's brain" saga pre-election 1980. One example. They kept trying to tell us rubes - Reagan was a light-weight; an affable dunce; a Hollywood actor with no grasp of foreign policy. Katie Couric would probably have been able to "stump" Reagan too, had the liberal media been as bold and in-your-face, back in the 70's.

The Country Club GOP elites hated Reagan too. Recall that it took him 3-4 attempts to finally get the nomination. They preferred McCain-like moderates like George Romney. You know, guys who were good losers.

Oh how frustrated they were. The "Teflon" president was a label born of frustration and rage - none of the dirt they flung at him managed to stick.

So...we have the McCain camp assholes blaming Palin, working in concert with the Left who learned their lesson with Reagon and who are not going to let it happen again. The media is so corrupted and so dishonest and unethical (as Hillary supporters FINALLY discovered in 2008 - welcome to our club), I suspect that they have been or at least will be, successful - and that Palin's days on the national stage are over.

Which is a shame. America could use a few good honest, down to earth, old fashioned, citizen legislators, instead of the Ivy League elite ruling class running the ENTIRE show.
