Did the Democrats really do so good?

Take the worst economic conditions in decades (featuring a near total collapse of the financial sector).

Add the adoration of the national media.

Stir in near unanimous public opinion that "we're on the wrong track".

Subtract 4,000 points from the stock market (and mail out the 401K statements weeks before the election).

Have your opponent lobby for the right thing to do in Iraq, but get no credit for it, because his success diminishes Iraq as an issue.

And it equals a Republican nominee who does better, expressed variously as either a percentage of the vote or in raw vote totals, than most recent Republican candidates in most elections since '92. (McCain did better than Poppy in '92 or Dole in '96, and apparently received more votes than W ever did).

The death of conservatism has been greatly exagerrated.

By the way - - voter turnout increased, but not as much as promised by the hype. And the youth vote? Up from 17% to 18%.

One can only wonder what the percentages split and final outcome would be like if:

ABC/NBC/CBS and the major papers were just a LITTLE more balanced in their coverage. If as much detail and attention was devoted to Obama's Educational Foundation activities, etc., as was devoted to Troopergate. One example. If for every military general or veteran they trotted out being for Obama, they would balance it by showing the military landslide poll support for McCain, and/or mention the 200 retired generals/admirals who came out for McCain. Another example. There are hundreds.

If the late night comic gags were 50-50 or even 60-40 instead of being 5-1 mocking McCain/Palin v. Obama/Biden.

If the Univerities had even a 70-30 split of liberal to conservative professors teaching the youth of today, versus a 95-5 split.

If the media treated Biden's gaffes and idiotic statements with one tenth the amount of attention and ridicule as they had treated Quayles. Instead the "Joseph Goebbels Propaganda Award for 2008" goes to establishing the Truth that Palin is the one who is the idiot, and "good old Joe" is loose lipped at times, but still has "30 years of foriegn policy expertise". Snort.

If we had photo ID, pre-electon, voter registration, nationwide. If we did NOT have all this early voting, and absentee voting.

If there was a larger segment of black America than there is, who is sick and tired of the race-hustling and non-stop victimization.

If there was a larger segment of the jewish population than there is, who is willing to get themselves out of denial as to which party NOW, TODAY, as opposed to 30-40 years ago, is committed to doing what it takes, to ensure Israel's survival as a nation, and not become enflamed in another Holocaust.

Think all that would be worth a percentage point or two?
