Chris Dodd must go

Chris Dodd is a second generation corrupt Connecticut senator. (His father, Sen. Thomas Joseph Dodd, was a United States Senator and one of only six people censured by the Senate in the 20th century.)

As Banking Committee minority leader and then Chair since 2006, Dodd was charged with oversight and regulation of the banking and mortgage industry. We know how that turned out.

Instead of doing his job on the Banking Committee, Dodd took discounted loans from now defunct Countrywide as a "friend of Angelo". Dodd has been a consistent top recipient of banking and insurance industry campaign contributions. Dodd was the number one recipient of campaign funds from Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, while ignoring calls for their reform. Dodd was involved in a phony "Irish cottage" deal with a convicted felon, and understated his interest and profit in Senate disclosure filings. The list goes on.

Now, Dodd is filling in for ailing Sen. Edward Kennedy as chair of the Health Committee, which will soon start work on a health care reform bill. Of course, Dodd's wife Jackie Clegg Dodd currently sits on the boards of three health care companies, Javelin Pharmaceuticals Inc., Cardiome Pharma Corp., and Brookdale Senior Living. She earns hundreds of thousands of dollars in those positions.

The Obama Democrats would not stand for such appearances of impropriety from a Republican. Change? Not so much.
