4 escape Baghdad prison days after Iraq takes control

Four Islamic extremists escaped a prison located inside the Baghdad airport compound that the U.S. military had handed over to the Iraqi government with great fanfare just last week, state television said Thursday.

The escape from under the noses of Iraqi and U.S. military forces was sure to raise questions about the competence and loyalties of officials running Iraq's prison system as the number of American troops falls to 50,000 by the end of next month.

. . . Iraqis familiar with the investigation said it was examining whether the warden, Omar Khames, had driven the men out of the prison in his car. The television report quoted a Justice Ministry source as saying that the Americans had pressured the ministry to accept Khames as warden.

We catch al-Qaida terrorists.

We turn them over to Iraq.

Then, the Iraqi we select as warden drives the terrorists out of the prison in his car (which we probably paid for).

Heck of a job, Obama!
