Billions in aid go to areas that backed Obama in '08

That's the headline.

"Billions of dollars in federal aid delivered directly to the local level to help revive the economy have gone overwhelmingly to places that supported President Obama in last year's presidential election. . . . Counties that supported Obama last year have reaped twice as much money per person from the administration's $787 billion economic stimulus package as those that voted for his Republican rival, Sen. John McCain . . . The reports show the 872 counties that supported Obama received about $69 per person, on average. The 2,234 that supported McCain received about $34."

Regardless of your political affiliation, this is wrong.

And, it's why big government big spending projects get a bad reputation - - they tend to end up corrupt and riddled with favoritism.

It was wrong when Bush and Cheney gave no bid contracts to Halliburton.

The cure for that wrong is to remove favoritism from the system, not to create a rewards system for your own supporters.

P.S. - News like this is manna from heaven for those who oppose single payer and the public option.
