Florida Senate 2010 will be an interesting race

Moderate / centrist African American Democrat U.S. Rep. Kendrick Meek of Miami was the first to declare for the open Florida U.S. Senate seat in 2010. Meek was a leading Clinton ally, and stuck with Hillary to the end. He's hired Clinton's deputy finance director in Florida, and his first fundraiser will feature Bill Clinton.

Meek's first declared Democratic primary opponent is ultra liberal Miami Beach State Sen. Dan Gelber. An ardent Obama primary supporter, Gelber hired Obama's Florida director and two of Obama's top fundraisers.

This will be a battle between Clinton and Obama surrogates. Ironically, the allegedly "racist" Clinton machine (remember?) will be backing the African American candidate. And, the "progressive" seeking netroots support will be trying to keep the Democratic nomination out of the hands of a young African American legislator.
