There are certain basic services that the national government was created to provide - - national defense, regulating the monetary supply and the post office come to mind.

With all the frills, pork barrel spending and unnecessary nonsense in the bailout and stimulus bills, they should have found some money for the post office. They could even have justified it as an effort to keep postal workers employed.
