Retail sales fell in May by the largest amount in eight months as consumers slashed spending on everything from cars to clothing.http://www.usatoday.com/money/economy/2010-06-11-retail-sales_N.htm
The Commerce Department said Friday that spending fell 1.2% last month. Auto sales were down 1.7% but there was widespread weakness in a number of areas. Excluding autos, sales dropped 1.1%.
There is no hiring in the retail sector when sales fall.
