Kendrick Meek

Kendrick Meek [sought] . . . federal funding . . . for a developer, now awaiting trial on fraud charges, who put Meek's mother on his payroll. Meek succeeded his mother, Carrie, in Congress in 2003.

Why is Kendrick Meek presented as an example of "the reality" that "top spots [are] still elusive" "for black candidates"?

Any candidate of any race with his ethical baggage would be in trouble.
