Virginia, New Jersey, Massachusetts and

. . . Illinois?

In the ultimate rebuke of a sitting president, the Republicans are now the favorites to win both the governorship and Obama's old U.S. senate seat in his home state.

The close Illinois gubernatorial primary will result in confusion, likely recounts, probable litigation and definite hard feelings among Democrats. The expected ultimate victor is the incompetent incumbent Governor Pat Quinn, who inherited the post as corrupt former Governor Rod Blagojevich's lieutenant governor. Whoever the Republicans nominate has to be considered the favorite.

In the senate race, the Democrats nominated Alexi Giannoulias, "the state treasurer and a basketball buddy of the president". With financial scandals involving Giannoulias' office and family bank breaking weekly, this race will probably be handed to moderate suburban Chicago Republican Representative Mark Kirk.

This is not what Obama wanted in the run up to his 2012 reelection effort.
