Business as usual

With women's advocacy groups voicing growing unease with administration policy, President Barack Obama will propose a $3.8 trillion budget on Monday that would exempt programs for women and girls from spending restrictions he's proposed for other programs.

Obama aides denied that political calculation was behind the emphasis on programs for women and girls, detailed in a budget document obtained by McClatchy entitled "Opportunity and Progress for Women and Girls."

The incompetence of the Bush administration and the financial crash caused many traditionally Republican voters to cross over to the Democrats for the first time in 2008. Obama and the Democratic party had a once in a generation opportunity to permanently win over these swing voters. But, with record deficits and record over spending and record waste and record borrowing and tax increases and favoritism for pressure groups, the Democrats are losing this chance to permanently expand their base.
