Iroquois silliness

An American Indian lacrosse team's refusal to travel on passports not issued by the Iroquois confederacy goes to the heart of one of the most sensitive issues in Indian Country — sovereignty.

The 23 members of the Iroquois Nationals — whose ancestors helped invent the sport as much as 1,000 years ago — refuse to use U.S. or Canadian passports, and the United Kingdom won't recognize their passports issued by the Iroquois confederacy.

By cancelling the trip, the team's "adult" advisers are not looking out for the best interests of the team members.

Further, I'm not too comfortable with the idea of individuals boarding airplanes with politically correct but fake i.d., issued without sufficient background security checks. And, frankly, you have to wonder if there's any reason other than ethnic pride behind the adults' refusal to apply for and travel on both Iroquois and U.S. or Canadian passports.
